Machine Gun Preacher, the Mark Forster directed film about a former drug-dealing biker tough guy who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who’ve been kidnapped and pressed into duty as soldiers in the Lord’s Resistance Army, will begin production next week in Africa before moving to Central City, PA, according to Somerset County Chamber of Commerce representatives.

Gerard Butler is set to take the lead as preacher Sam Childers.   Michelle Monaghan will play Childers’ wife, Lynn, and Michael Shannon plays a close friend of Childers who stayed with his wife while he was away in Africa.

Butler, who just finished filming Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut, Coriolanus, in Belgrade, has been committed to the film since January.

Production Weekly reports that the film will shift the production to Michigan in July.

Hello Lovelies!

Updates here have been a bit slow, news with Gerry have been on very rare and most are just gossip. Why post about that stuff?

Anyways, I have an awesome update for you, our wonderful friend Sarika of Imogen Online, who is also the owner of Gerard Butler Source, has notified us that she will be closing the doors on her Gerry site. She has kindly donated some of the content of her site that we currently don’t have to us, so we are in the process of merging both sites together. We would like to give her a huge thanks for such a wonderful donation and truly appreciate that she chose us to share that with.

Lionsgate is prepping the Gerard Butler action film “Machine Gun Preacher,” which will begin lensing this summer. Film will be directed by Marc “Quantum of Solace” Foster.

Film follows the real-life 1998 story of Sam Childers, a drug-dealing biker who fends off African forces who kidnap children.
Michelle Monaghan will star as Chiders’ wife and Michael Shannon will play Childers’ friend.

First Showing has been tracking the story. Childers constructed an orphanage and fought off armed militia whose objective it was to kidnap children.

“Machine Gun” is baed on Childers’ autobiography “Another Man’s War: The True Story of One Man’s Battle to Save Children in the Sudan.”
