Sorry for the lack of updates here, both Michelle and I have been a bit busy with our offline lives. We have been working behind the scenes to bring you an updated fansite. Stay tuned for that.

Now on to the update. As many of you know Gerry attended the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday where he was a presenter. I have added photos from both the Arrivals and the Show to the gallery. I would like to thank my very good friend Roberta who kindly donated a lot of photos in this udpate.

Gerard is on the cover of the October 2011 issue of Los Angeles Confidential. We’ll have scans up as soon as we’re able!

On choosing Machine Gun Preacher as his latest project: “I think what made me want to walk around in his shoes was just the man himself. What he’s achieved is so mind-blowing, so unbelievable – this person who just kind of takes on the world, decides to go into Sudan and build an orphanage in the middle of the civil war. He’s definitely not a Mr. Goody Two-Shoes, squeaky-clean hero, so it just felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

On taking nothing for granted…but never being used to being a celeb: “It’s almost like being successful makes certain people feel like they have the right to be completely invasive and aggressive in your life. That’s what really bothers me. I can’t often go to Starbucks without literally having five different cameras pointing at me. You smile and wave, but really you think, I don’t even want to do this anymore. I just want to go….At the end of the day, I love making movies.”

On whether he ever considers quitting acting: “Sometimes I do think, You know what? I could see myself doing something else in a few years. Although I said that to somebody else just recently and they said, ‘How many retired actors do you know? How many guys do you know who actually went off to do something else?’ I went, ‘Maybe you’re right.’ But I do feel sometimes it’d be really great to disappear. Now, I might go and do that for a year and then think, Sh-t, I need to come back! Because that’s the thing: At the end of the day, I love making movies.”

We’ll likely hear more about Gerard Butler when two of his performances are seen on screen in Coriolanus and Machine Gun Preacher, both of which will hit at the Toronto International Film Festival next month (keep an eye out for Alex’s coverage of the fest). But now THR says the actor is taking another gig as The Bricklayer in an adaptation of Noah Boyd’s novel of the same name. As a supposed former FBI agent, the author paints a unique and intricate fictional tale about a rogue former agent who’s called in to help battle a criminal group that is demanding an escalating series of multi-million dollar ransom payments.

Here’s a slightly more detailed account of Boyd’s novel:

A mysterious organization calling itself the Rubaco Pentad is blackmailing the FBI. If the Pentad’s demands for money are not met, high-profile victims will die. Each demand is bigger than the last, and the drop-off instructions are lethally complicated—it’s almost as if the Pentad wants the FBI to fail. But when an agent disappears with the cash he’s carrying, he needs to be found, and fast. One thing is clear: someone who knows a little too much about the inner workings of the Bureau is very clever —and very angry—and will kill and kill again if it means he can disgrace the FBI. The FBI pins its hopes on former agent Steve Vail, who quit rather than compromise his rigid personal code and is now working as a bricklayer.

Sounds like quite a smart thriller, and hopefully, with his aforementioned festival bound films, will help him recover from the disaster that was The Bounty Hunter with Jennifer Aniston. Since making a huge splash in 300, Butler hasn’t exactly made the best choices in roles ranging from disappointing turns in The Ugly Truth to the over-the-top action packed Neveldine and Taylor flick Gamer. However, Law Abiding Citizen was quite a compelling thriller, even if it jumped the shark a bit in the third act. Hanna Weg is scripting the film, but I can’t speak to her talents on the page since her work has yet to be seen on the big screen. Here’s hoping this turns out to be as intriguing a thriller as the synopsis makes it out to be.
